We are always on the lookout for talented people to work with us on our projects, either as a freelancer or employee, with XM or one of our partners and friends.
Junior Engineer – XM Automation
After a busy year and with a lot more work coming up XM Automation is recruiting more engineering talent.
About Us:
XM Automation is a small live event automation company. We take on jobs that other automation suppliers can’t or won’t do. Our technology can be seen at Royal Ballet Opera, the National Theatre, in the West End and on Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour as well as many other venues.
Lots of our work involves integrating our console into existing systems where the console might be dated but the mechanics are still functioning well. To do this we are building an engineering talent pool who can reverse engineer systems.
About the Job:
The job is as a graduate automation engineer, we will provide full training as required. There are two strands to the engineering at XM, development of the desk/product line and developing how we efficiently integrate our system into existing systems. Through the job you will gain an understanding of many different industrial automation drives and control systems. The job will vary massively. We are a small company and everyone does a bit of everything.
A typical work day might include:
- Visiting a theatre to draw up a list of inputs and outputs so we can reverse engineer the existing infrastructure.
- Assembling some control desks.
- Commissioning drives using Beckhoff PLCs.
- Researching a new feature for the XM Desk.
- Travelling to a cruise ship with the rest of the team to install an automation upgrade.
About You:
The main quality we are looking for is the ability to learn quickly. Experience in automation or theatre is a plus but is not a requirement.
You might have an engineering, computer science, or other STEM degree or engineering employment experience.
You will need to be happy working under pressure, travelling around the world, self directed learning, problem solving and fault finding.
The job will likely suit someone who wants to use an engineering degree and work in theatre.
If you are interested please contact sam.morley@xmautomation.co.uk as soon as possible.
Applications close on the 1st of August 2026.
