• Back to the Office

Working from home is all very well, but it’s great to start back in a real office again. Thanks to Piers and Jeremy for letting me share a little of their stunning space in King’s Cross. Wonder Works has a real buzz about it. Really enjoying the experience, do call in and say hello if you are in the area.

  • Whirly Reeler

Very pleased to have played a small part in bringing my friend Ewart Richardsons latest invention to life. The whirly reeler is a new microphone winch, with a very clever mechanism that means there’s no slip ring mechanism needed of the electrical feed. Watch the video on Ewart’s site, I’ve watched it several times – and still can’t quite explain how it works, genius!

  • ABTT ISG Membership

Very pleased to announce that XM Automation is now a bronze member of the ABTT Industry Supporters Group (ISG). I remember first reading/hearing about Automation back in 1980 in the ABTT Sightlines magazine, which had an article (by the great Dick Brett) on the new National Theatre Power Flying System. Back then the idea of computer controlled flying systems seemed the stuff of science fiction, how the landscape has changed. The ABTT has throughout those years supported the discussions, and debates that have helped drive our industry forward, through their support for the International Theatre and Architecture Conference (ITEAC – founded by Dick Brett) and the work of the various safety and training committees. Very happy to be contributing in a small way to that work, and looking forward to future discussions.

  • XM Sponsors ‘Modern Theatres’ Book Launch

Very excited to be associated with the ABTT Launch Party for Modern Theatres, edited by David Staples. David has worked tirelessly for over 4 years to bring this concept to life. Very happy to have helped in a small way by contributing the chapter on Stage Engineering.

The Launch party at the IET should be a great event – looking forward to catching up with friends old and new as the theatre industry re-awakes from the hardest challenge we have ever faced.
